Your Guide to Cooper-Young Porchfest 2026
It's one of the most Memphis things you can do all year and it's completely free.

Picture this: a perfect April afternoon, the kind Memphis does better than just about anywhere. You're strolling tree-lined streets in one of the city's most beloved neighborhoods, cold drink in hand, and every few houses there's a band on somebody's front porch absolutely throwing down.
Blues, indie rock, folk, funk, jazz, soul — sometimes all within the same block. Kids are dancing in front yards. Neighbors are catching up over lawn chairs. Dogs are living their best lives.
That's Cooper-Young Porchfest, and it's back for Year 6 on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
What Exactly Is Porchfest?
What Exactly Is Porchfest?
The concept is beautifully simple: local musicians and bands volunteer to perform on the front porches of Cooper-Young residents, and the whole neighborhood becomes one big, walkable, open-air music venue.
There's no main stage, no ticket booth, no VIP section. Just Memphis musicians doing what they do best in one of the city's most character-rich settings.
The Cooper-Young Community Association (CYCA) organizes the whole thing, matching bands to porches across the historic neighborhood. A schedule and map go live on cooperyoung.org the week of the event so you can plan your route or just wander and let the music find you.
How It All Started
How It All Started
Porchfest was born in the spring of 2021, when Memphis was ready to come back together after a long stretch without live music. A local musician pitched the idea to the CYCA, and it turned out Cooper-Young with its walkable streets, eclectic homes, and deep bench of musical talent was the perfect neighborhood to make it happen.
That first year, organizers hoped for 15 bands. Forty showed up to play on 20 porches. It's been growing ever since, with recent years seeing well over 100 bands performing on 45-plus porches. The event draws thousands of people from all over Memphis and beyond.
What to Know Before You Go
When: Saturday, April 18, 2026. Music runs from noon to around 6 p.m.
Where: Throughout the Cooper-Young neighborhood in Midtown Memphis, roughly centered around the intersection of Cooper Street and Young Avenue.
Cost: Absolutely free. But you're encouraged to tip the musicians. Many will have Venmo info posted, making it easy.
Yard sales too: The CYCA pairs Porchfest with a neighborhood-wide yard sale that morning, so come early and treasure hunt before the music kicks off.
Getting around: Street parking is available but fills up. Rideshare is a smart move, especially if you want to take your time. Once you're there, everything is walkable. That's the whole point.
Family-friendly: Very much so. This is one of those rare events that's equally fun for toddlers and grandparents. Bring a wagon for the little ones and plan to take your time.
Why It's So Special
Why It's So Special
There are plenty of music festivals in Memphis (and we love them all), but Porchfest hits different. It's entirely volunteer-driven. Every musician, every porch host, every organizer donates their time. There's no corporate stage, no wristband situation, no lines. It's just people sharing music for the joy of it, in a neighborhood that's been doing its own thing since long before "authentic" became a marketing buzzword.
Cooper-Young is one of Memphis's most walkable, eclectic, creatively alive neighborhoods. The historic homes with their wide porches were practically made for this. And because the stages are literally someone's front porch, the whole thing feels wonderfully intimate.
Since you'll already be in Cooper-Young, take advantage of the neighborhood's stellar restaurant and bar scene. Grab brunch before the yard sales, lunch between sets, or dinner after the last note rings out.
Mark your calendar for April 18 and we'll see you in Cooper-Young.
