Why (And Where) You Should Watch The Bluff City Law TV Show

Ed. Note: You can watch the premiere and other episodes streaming on Hulu or on the NBC mobile app.

NBC's new legal drama Bluff City Law premieres this coming Monday, September 23, 2019 at 9 p.m. CST. I know what you're thinking: yes, they still do make shows that come on TV at certain times! Embrace the nostalgia and your love for Memphis and let's get into it.

The show is set in Memphis and filmed in Memphis. Horray! The cast and crew have been filming for weeks, mostly downtown, and NBC has ordered a total of 16 episodes. It's time to get pumped and make a plan for tuning in on Monday!

Watch Parties

We love any excuse to party, and if we're supporting the city's local film industry, that's just a bonus. There are a couple of Watch Parties around town on Monday night:

Unofficial Official Bluff City Law Premiere Watch Party
Court Square, 8 p.m. - 10 p.m., all ages (parental discretion is up to you)

Downtown Memphis hosts this unofficially-official watch party in Court Square with a big screen, food trucks, DJs, beer and wine for sale, and more. Actor Jayne Atkinson will make an appearance. Get all the details and RSVP here.

Bluff City Law / $2 White Claw Watch Party
9 p.m. - ’til, The Hi Tone, 21 and up

Watch the show, drink White Claws, do the Hi-Tone thing.

If you're hosting a watch party that's open to the public, email me at [email protected] with details.

If you're not going out to watch (or even if you do) then everyone be sure to stream online or watch on demand at some point.

What It's About

Jimmy Smits plays famed Memphis attorney Elijah Strait. His daughter Sydney Strait, played by Caitlin McGee, reluctantly rejoins the firm after a falling out years before. They attempt to repair their relationship while tackling big, heart-wrenching legal cases with their team. The rest of the cast includes Barry Sloane as Jake Reilly, Michael Luwoye as Anthony Little,  MaameYaa Boafo as Briana Johnson, and Jayne Atkinson as Della Bedbord.

In the previews, there's a lot of talk about changing the world and doing what's right and warm 'n' fuzzies, but also some yelling! McGee has said some of the show's cases are ripped from the headlines, and will address big current issues. Check out more comments from the show's premiere party here.

Filming In Memphis

The Bluff City Law crew has been all over the city filming, so I feel like you’re going to recognize a ton of Memphis locations. We know the show will feature South Main and Front Street prominently, including Court Square, The Rendezvous, the bluffs, Central Station, Beale Street, and much more.

It’s refreshing to see a show set in the city actually filmed here, and it truly seems like the cast is embracing Memphis.

Special thanks to Caitlin McGee for supporting the I Love Memphis Blog and hanging out at the blog’s birthday party and also supporting Blues City Animal Rescue. That was awesome and much appreciated - a moment I won't ever forget.

I hope y’all tune in on Monday. Let me know what you think. I’m sure we’ll be discussing it over on Twitter.
