365 Things to Do in Memphis #12: Have Some Prozac

Today's assignment (#12 of 365 Things To Do In Memphis) is to improve your mood by putting some Prozac in your mouth. Don't worry about getting a prescription.

This Prozac isn't a pill, it's a devil's-food chocolate cupcake topped with delectable chocolate buttercream icing. And you have to try it.

Though much of their menu rotates weekly, Muddy's Bakeshop sells their chocolate-on-chocolate Prozac cupcakes every day. If the chocolate alone doesn't improve your mood, they always add some happy little sprinkles.

Since opening on Leap Day in 2008, Muddy's has become a Memphis favorite for baked treats of all kinds. Ask Memphians their favorite pie, and you'll hear about Muddy's Coco Chanel (chocolate pie), Coconut Cream, or Shady Wake (their version of a pecan pie). They have vegan options, too.

The shop serves cookies, cupcakes, pie, cakes, and other treats and snacks in an absolutely adorable atmosphere. Seriously. Everything Muddy's is the cutest.

Their work has earned media attention from Food Network, The New York Times, Travel + LeisureThe Southern Weekend, and Saveur, to name a few.

You can taste a Prozac (or many of their other goodies) by ordering online - they ship nationwide!

As I said, Muddy's has vegan options and they do have some gluten-free/flourless and nut-free options. (Talk with them if you have concerns about your dietary needs or cross-contamination of gluten, nuts, etc.)

Also, they donate their Tip Jar proceeds to a different local cause every month. Prozac jokes aside, what could be more uplifting than that?

Check the website for the most up-to-date info on hours. Follow them on Instagram if you want to be hungry constantly and also stay up-to-date on events and pop-ups.

Muddy has become quite pretentious over the last few months and the quality of their product is not as good as it used to be. They seem to be all about quantity these days now that they can still surf on that wave of good reputation. Used to love it, now only go back every now and then for nostalgia's sake and mostly have become disenchanted .... :(

I work at the hotel right across from Muddy's and I am so in love with their cupcakes! I love Pucker-up, the lemon flavored one. MUAH! Deliciousness! It's a fabulous vibe in there, young, fun, silly, and fresh.

We just moved here from the Chicago area and tried these cupcakes.  We love them!  Now where can we find a cocktail called the dirty banana?
