I write about what’s going on with Memphis music, food, arts, events, sports, people, and culture. Memphians love Elvis and barbeque with a passion that must be seen to be believed, but there is so much more to this place.

Great article Holly….Sometimes when you wake up in the morning, the weather is so perfect there's nothing you can do but get in the car for a Delta Road Trip.  You hit some great spots on yours and there are many, many more.  All it takes is a little time for so much culture and history.

If you missed Crave Bistro and Delta Fast Food this time around, I would highly recommend them the next time you are in Cleveland. Crave has a selection of homemade muffins and cupcakes everyday, which are really good. Like most cupcake shops, they pile on the icing and tend to be a little sweet for me. But, if they have it, try the Banna Pudding cupcake. That one is exceptional. They also have a nice lunch menu. The Reuben with Pasta salad is excellent. My go-to lunch when working at a plant nearby.

As for Delta Fast Food, it showed up on a Food Network show one day, so I tried it out. The tamales are good, but the Rib Tips make a great inexpensive meal at a very reasonable price.

On the way home, the Shady Nook Convenience Store on 61 right outside Clarksdale has some VERY good tamales. They have a nice spicy kick to them, and again, the price is hard to beat.

  3. Neat post, Holly!  It's interesting to know what we can find in a short drive from Memphis. Thank you for all your hard work!!
