5 Things to Do in Memphis This Weekend: 2/24 - 2/26
Happy Friday, Memphis! Here are this weekend's top five, can't-miss events:
1. Eric Carle's Treasured Stories, Orpheum Theatre, Friday, 6 p.m., $15
If you and your kids love the "Very Hungry Caterpillar", you can see it (and Eric Carle's other stories) performed live at the Orpheum tonight. The show, which is about an hour long, is part of the Orpheum's family series. Tickets are $15 each.
2. Auto Parts Monster Jam, FedExForum, Friday, 7:30 p.m., $22 and up
If you're used to seeing the FedExForum as a basketball arena, you might be in for a little shock when you see the floor covered in dirt for tonight's Monster Jam. The show is family friendly, and you can purchase pit passes (to get up close and personal with the trucks) for $10.
3. Pretty Things Peep Show, Young Ave. Deli, Friday, 9 p.m., $10
The Pretty Things Peep Show returns to Memphis tonight and if you love classic burlesque, you don't want to miss it. I've been to a few Pretty Things shows, and they're excellent in every way. Tonight, they'll be joined by Lola Vee and Rowdy Ann from the Memphis Belles. The show is 21 and up.
4. "Being Elmo: a Puppeteer's Journet", Brooks Museum of Art, Sunday, 2 p.m., $8 non-members
At the Brooks Museum's screening of "Being Elmo", you'll get to meet Kevin Clash, the man behind the muppet. The documentary is narrated by Whoopi Goldberg and includes behind the scenes footages of Sesame Street. Tickets are $6 for members and $8 for non-members.
5. Ronald McDonald House Oscar Night America, Minglewood Hall, Sunday, 6 p.m., $125
Watch the Oscars in style at the Ronald McDonald House's Oscar night benefit. The show will be screened at Minglewood Hall, and there will be gourmet food from local chefs, dancing, and silent auctions.
If none of these events are your thing, there are a ton more on the blog's calendar. No matter what you do this weekend, I hope you have a blast.
