Unleash Your Dog at the Barking Lot

Downtown dog owners, take note – the Barking Lot is open.

The Barking Lot is (at this point) downtown Memphis' only dedicated dog park. It's in the footprint of an old building, which means that the small, fenced park fits neatly on the street.

I stopped by today with Henry, my big, excited lab-boxer mix. While the Barking Lot is an excellent place to give your dog a bathroom break (and bonus, they provide poo bags), it's also a perfect outlet for dogs that need a little extra socialization.

Once you and your dog are inside the park's double gates, you're free to let your dog off his leash and kick back on a bench while he exhausts himself by frolicking with other pups.

You can also get some food – the Barking Lot has a special dedicated parking space for food trucks. When I was there today, the Fuel Cafe truck was parked there, serving up tacos.

The Barking Lot is free and open daily, and all people must be accompanied by dogs (and vice versa).

I write about what’s going on with Memphis music, food, arts, events, sports, people, and culture. Memphians love Elvis and barbeque with a passion that must be seen to be believed, but there is so much more to this place.
