Memphis Mystery Train Set List: December 8, 2011

Today's show had something for everybody, from Irishmen to teenage girls. But there was definitely no Christmas music.

You don't have to if you don't want to

Here's what I played on this week's Memphis Mystery Train. As always, the local tracks are marked with an asterisk and my notes are in italics:

Billy Bragg and Wilco - She Came Along to Me
The Animals - Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood
Be Good Tanyas - In My Time of Dying
Velvet Underground - Who Loves the Sun
Belle and Sebastian - Dirty Dream Number Two
She and Him - Fools Rush In (Yes, the Elvis song.)
Elvis Costello - (What's So Funny About) Peace, Love and Understanding (Nothing, that's what.)
Black Kids - I'm Not Going to Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance With You
Little Richard - Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On (Possibly my favorite version of this classic.)
Pleasure Seekers - Good Kind of Hurt

snarky
Many years ago, I saw a show at The Orpheum with The Cramps, The Klitz and The Panther Burns (joke was that this was the Jeopardy clue for "What are three symptoms of venereal disease?").  Midway through the Cramps, the house lights were turned on, dozens of uniformed police stormed in and escorted the audience out.  Jealous much?

Thunder chicken is a slang term for a male turkey. I am the only nephew of the guy who wrote Banned in Boston. John Morier was my mother's oldest brother.
