Meet Memphian no. 321, Brian Twersky. Here, he answers my questions about his favorite places to be outside, his favorite local athlete, and the weird questions he gets asked at work. He also solves the age-old Chinese Sub Shop riddle of "Hard roll or soft roll":
Name: Brian Twersky
Occupation: Front Office Manager at the Holiday Inn University of Memphis
Hometown: Memphis, TN
Neighborhood: East Memphis/Germantown
My favorite place to be outside in Memphis is: The Shelby Farms Greenline
If I could add one thing to Memphis, it would be: A rapid transit system that covers the entire metropolitan area.
It’s Friday night. You’ll find me: With friends, having dinner & drinks in midtown.
My favorite local athlete is (and why): Shane Battier (he is local at this point, right?). Besides hitting the game winning shot in the Grizzlies' first ever playoff win, he is just about the nicest, most down-to-earth guy that you will ever meet.
You know you’re from Memphis when: You are a BBQ snob. You still call it "Memphis State".
It’s decision time at Chinese Sub Shop. Hard roll or soft roll? Soft roll is the only way to go.
The most common question I get asked at work is: Where can I get the best BBQ in Memphis?
The weirdest question I’ve been asked at work is: Is Kemmons Wilson (Native Memphian, founder of Holiday Inn, & namesake to the Kemmons Wilson School of Hospitality & Resort Management) buried in our hotel?
I hope that: There is Memphis Grizzlies basketball before the 2012 season.
I’m excited about: The St. Jude Half Marathon. My upcoming 10k, 4 mile, & 5k races. The Memphis Tigers' 2011-2012 basketball season. The red cups at Starbucks.
I love Memphis because: It's home. My family & friends are here. We have the best people, food, & basketball in the country.
