5 Things to Do in Memphis This Weekend: 11/4 - 11/6

5 Things to Do in Memphis This Weekend: 11/4 - 11/6

Happy Friday, Memphis! Here's your shorlist list of five awesome things happening around town this weekend:

1. Indie Memphis Film Festival, Playhouse on the Square / Studio on the Square, Friday - Sunday, $18 - $50 (for day and weekend passes)

Indie Memphis 2011

The Indie Memphis Film Festival is returning to Overton Square for its 14th year. The four-day long festival features the regional and national feature films, documentaries, shorts and music videos. This year, the festival is spread out between Studio on the Square, Playhouse on the Square and the Brooks Museum of Art. You can purchase a full weekend pass or an individual day pass, or individual tickets to some of the gala screenings. Pro tip: check out this festival guide before you go.

2. Yo Gabba Gabba Live, Orpheum Theatre, Friday, 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., $29.50 - $39.50

If you've got kids, you've probably seen the TV version of "Yo Gabba Gabba". If not, you basically need to know that it's like hipster "Sesame Street". Tonight, the touring live version of the show is at the Orpheum for two shows. Expect lots of singing and dancing, friendly fuzzy monsters, DJ Lance Rock, and plenty of silliness. Also, expect to have "Party in My Tummy" stuck in your head for weeks.

3. India Fest, Agricenter International, Saturday, all day, $2 adults, $1 kids

India Fest is a day-long celebration of Indian culture. Sample Indian food, get decorated with henna paint, learn about Indian history and culture, shop the bazaar and attempt to master traditional Indian dances. Pro tip: If you’ve never tried Indian food (or think you don’t like it), give it another try at India Fest – the festival is an amazing gastronomical experience.

4. Scandals and Scoundrels Walk, Elmwood Cemetery, Saturday, 2 p.m., $12

Elmwood Cemetery is the final resting place of a dozens of influential Memphians. It's also the home to some of our less reputable, more scandalous denizens. On Saturday, there's going to be a two hour history tour of the cemetery's more notorious residents. It's $12, and you need to call ahead to register.

5. Mem-stagram Walk, Earnestine & Hazel's, Sunday, 3 p.m., free

On Sunday, Nov. 6th, we're taking the first ever Mem-stagram Walk in the South Main Arts District. Bring your camera phone (or real camera) and meet us at Earnestin & Hazel's at 3 p.m. on Sunday. We'll be talking a walk down South Main and snapping photos. It's silly, it's fun, and we'll be leaving promptly at 3 p.m.

If none of these events are your thing, there are tons more on the calendar. As always, no matter what you do this weekend, I hope you have a great time.
