Memphis Mystery Train Set List: Oct. 6, 2011
I got up extra early for today's Mystery Train, because I had to pick up my very special guest. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you John Hubbell, original host of the Memphis Mystery Train.
Much like Jay-Z, Hubbell came out of retirement for the day in order to co-host the show with me. He left it (and Memphis) in April when he moved to Hong Kong to take a job with the New York Times.
Needless to say, the show's format has changed a little bit since then. Here's what I played today, with the local tracks marked with an asterisk:
Pavement - Stereo
The Egyptians - Party Stomp
Billy Bragg - Short Answer (which has the greatest first line ever)
*Reigning Sound - She's Bored With You
Detroit Cobras - Breakaway
Young Fresh Fellows - Taco Wagon
The Clash - Janie Jones
*Barbara Pittman - Everlasting Love
*Two-Way Radio - Run Away
Cee-lo Green - You're So Square (Baby I Don't Care)
Neutral Milk Hotel - Holland, 1945
Magnetic Fields - California Girls
*Jack O. and the Tennessee Tearjerkers - 'Til the Money Runs Out
New York Dolls - I'm So Fabulous
Thao - When We Swam
The Ramones - Glad to See You Go
Screamin' Jay Hawkins - Alligator Wine
The Supremes - Ain't That Good News
*Harlan T. Bobo - Too Much Love
Those Darlins - Mama's Heart
Townes Van Zandt - Fraternity Blues (in honor of my little brother's 25th birthday)
Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros - Home (RAC Remix)
Carolina Chocolate Drops - Hit 'Em Up Style
The Like - He's Not a Boy
They Might Be Giants - Minimum Wage
Anna Karina - Roller Girl
Patty and the Emblems - Mixed Up, Shook Up Girl
Loretta Lynn - Fist City
Wilco - Candy Floss
Veronica Falls - Wedding Day
Freddy - Sie Heiss Mary-Ann
Adam Green - Leaky Flask
A.C. Newman - Miracle Drug
Frightened Rabbit - Living in Color
Why - Sanddollars
Bobby Fuller Four - Let Her Dance

If you missed the show today, you can re-listen tomorrow from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. (and every Thursday morning from 8 a.m. - 10 a.m.) on 89.9 FM in Memphis or at wevl.org.
