A Last Call (for Photos and a Bar), Memphis Madness, and Ignite Memphis Returns
Today's Memphian is more like a collection of Memphians. Meet Mr. Johnson's homeroom class at the Power Center Academy charter school. These super bright eighth graders were celebrating Literacy Day by listening to different local speakers (including me) talking about their relationships with reading.
In other news:
- It's last call for 365 Memphians Photo Day at Emerge Memphis on Friday. If you want to be included as part of the 365 Memphians series, this is your chance. I've still got slots open in the early afternoon and a few open in the late afternoon. If you'd like one, email me at [email protected].
- Alas, Bar None is done. John Bragg decided to close his downtown chef's pub in order to focus on Circa. I've heard that it's going to be taken over / transformed by a pair of experienced bar owners, though. I'll post more details when I have them.
- Ahem. Memphis Madness (aka the start of that most wonderful time of the year, basketball season) is now nine days away. It's a free, general admission game at the FedEx Forum on Friday, Oct. 14. If you want a seat, get there early - this game fills up to the point that the fire marshal gets involved. Here's the poster:
- Ignite, Memphis' five minute presentation extravaganza, is coming up on Nov. 10th. The organizers are looking for speakers who are willing to do a five minute, 20-slide presentation on the topic of their choosing. If you'd like to participate, here's how.
