5 Things to Do in Memphis This Weekend: 10/7 - 10/9

Happy Friday, Memphis! Here's this weekend's list of the top five events you shouldn't miss: 1. Pink Palace Crafts Fair, Audubon Park, Oct. 6 – 9, $7 adults, $3 kids After 39 years, the Pink Palace Crafts Fair is one of Memphis’ longest-running fall festivals. With good reason – the four-day festival features crafts vendors, live demonstrations, a special kids’ area, a petting zoo and plenty of great food. If you’re into getting holiday shopping done early, this is a great place to do it. 2. Avenue Q,  Circuit Playhouse, Friday - Oct. 30th, various times, $20 (opening weekend) Avenue Q   In some ways, "Avenue Q" is your average musical -  it's about the perils and hope of being young and broke in the big city. Only, instead of pretty actors singing and dancing their way through the plot, "Avenue Q" is told through foul mouthed puppets. This one is definitely rated R, so leave younger kids at home. 3. New Memphis Hepcats, the Rhumba Room, Friday, 7 p.m., $5 Memphis' favorite 16-piece swing band is playing a rare show tonight at the Rhumba Room downtown. Bring your dance shoes, because the kids from Red Hot Lindy Hop will be giving free dance lessons at 6:30 p.m. 4. Luvmud, Shelby Farms, Oct. 8 and 9, free to attend, $50+ to race LuvMud Luvmud is so much more than a fun run.  Two and four-person teams dress up in costumes and run through a 5k obstacle course that ends with a dash through a giant mud pit. Last year’s first-ever Luvmud race was so successful that this year, it’s going to last two days. The race benefits Habitat for Hope and includes live music, food and family activities. 5. Opera Memphis Polo Picnic, Memphis Polo Club, Sunday, 2 p.m., $20 Break out your fancy hats - Opera Memphis is having a polo picnic on Sunday afternoon. Bring food, drinks, lawn chairs - whatever, really, as there are no tailgate rules - and watch the Memphis Polo Club's afternoon match. Proceeds benefit Opera Memphis.
