Meet Memphian no. 255 - Daniel Harris

365 Memphians - Daniel Harris
Daniel Harris is an ordained chaplain and the founder of Fallen Walls Ministries. Here, he answers my questions about his work, his inspirations and his favorite songs, places and things to do in Memphis: Name: Daniel Aaron Harris Occupation: I'm a urban missionary and founder of Fallen Walls Ministries. I'm also a ordained community chaplain. Hometown: Memphis, Tenn. Neighborhood: I grew up in east Memphis. Fallen Walls is: The mission is that Fallen Walls is a ministry dedicated to proclaim that because of Jesus Christ there are no more barriers to the Memphis, TN community and beyond. Fallen Walls really comes down to four key elements: invest, build, connect and love. Investing in the city is key for me. When you are fully invested you put your whole into it. This is why I choose to live in downtown because it's the heart of our city. My focus is mainly building lasting relationships with urban dwellers. People who are well connected with others is what makes a community strong. We connect churches and other groups to the city by way of outreaches. All of this couldn't be done with out a deep love for our city. My favorite song is: "It's A Wonderful World" by Luis Armstrong Right now, I’m working on: trying to get the word out about Fallen Walls. Many know me but they couldn't tell you what I do. This has to change and i'm working hard on that. It’s Friday night. I’m probably: at Havana Mix Cigar shop. It's a very relaxed place to build community with people. I hope that: you will go read my blog and learn about all the things I'm doing in Memphis and the world. Hopefully, you'll be inspired to join me or go out and do the same. My favorite place in Memphis is: South Main Street. My apartment and Bluff City Coffee are on Main. I love it. When friends come from out of town, I make sure they go to: The Civil Rights Museum is a must for sure. Huey's is a main stop, too. I’m inspired by:  First, by God. If I didn't have faith to hold on to, I would have quit a long time ago. Beyond this, I'm really inspired by my friends, family and Memphis itself. I’ve never been to: Stax. I really want to go soon. I love Memphis because:  Memphis has a lot going for it. It's little, so if you have a heart for change you can and should play a big role in seeing that change gets done.
