Drink Specials, Crosstown Lights, and a Show that Goes on Rain or Shine
Frank Johnson and W.O. Jones were photographed at Park(ing) day 2011, where they were acting as the "books" in a human library sponsored by Crosstown Arts. Both of them used to work in the Sears Crosstown building at Watkins and North Parkway.
- Speaking of the Sears Crosstown building, Memphis Juncture has a great photo of the building's new light installation by artist Robin Salant. She received a grant to install a solar-powered LED light show in the building's side and tower.
- Congratulations to the University of Memphis football team for both their win over Austin Peay and the six-figure donation from former player DeAngelo Williams to improve the program's facilities.
- In drinking news, there are two downtown bars with great specials tonight. All of the beers at Bardog Tavern will be $2 until 3 a.m. If you're looking for something a wee bit classier, the Corner Bar at the Peabody Hotel will have a $3 martini happy hour from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. (Thanks to Paul for the tip).
- The Jim Dickinson Folk Festival at the Levitt Shell is going to happen tonight, rain or shine. The free show starts at 6:30 p.m. and features bands paying tribute to legendary Memphis musician Jim Dickinson.
