5 Things to Do in Memphis This Weekend: 9/30 - 10/2
Happy Friday, Memphis! Here's my weekly short list of of the top five things to do in Memphis this weekend:
1. Repair Days, National Ornamental Metal Museum, Friday - Sunday, free
If you’ve got some metalwork that needs a little bit of TLC, bring it to the National Ornamental Metal Museum’s annual Repair Days. Blacksmiths and metalworkers from all over the country will be at the museum, fixing up dinged, damaged and broken metal objects. While you’re there, check out the hands-on activities, blacksmithing demos, museum exhibits and auction. It’s free to get into the festival, but any work will be at a fee.
2. Memphis Heat DVD Release Party, Central Barbecue, Friday, 4 p.m. - 7 p.m., free
There's going to be a release party tonight for "Memphis Heat", a home-grown movie about the history of Memphis wrestling. The party is at Central Barbecue (on Central) from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. Have some food and pick up a copy of the film on DVD.
3. Children's Ball, Children's Museum of Memphis, Friday, 6 p.m., $25 - $35
The Children's Museum is hosting it's first ever fancy dress party for kids tonight. The fairy tale ball will take place at the Museum, and there will be music, dancing, carriage rides, food and magic. Tickets are $25 for members and $35 for non-members.
4. Grammy GPS Fest Concert, Hi-Tone Cafe, Friday, 8 p.m., $10
The Grammy GPS Conference is kicking off this weekend with a concert at the Hi-Tone Cafe. Cities Aviv, Givers, GR Robinson and Kruxe will play. Doors open at 7 p.m., the show starts at 8 p.m. If you're a Recording Academy member, you'll get in free.
5. Bands, Bikes and Block Parties, Shelby Farms Greenline, Saturday, 12 p.m. - 4 p.m., free
The Shelby Farms Greenline - that 7 mile paved trail that are packed with walkers, bikers and skaters every day - is having its very first birthday on Saturday. The Greenline will be lined with bands, block parties at intersections, a basketball tournament, an evening party and plenty of food and drink.
If none of these events are your thing, there are a ton more on the calendar for this weekend.
No matter what you do this weekend, I hope you have a great time. I'll see you on Monday.
