National Night Out, an Oblivians In-Store, Free Burritos and Snakes on a Car
Scott Brown is a start up rock star. He's worked at a handful of Memphis technology start ups (including Mark's Menus and Coroutine). His current work might be my favorite, though - he's opening a web-based grocery store called Ernie's. The concept is simple (and perfect for those of us who hate going to the store)- place your grocery order and pay through the Ernie's website, then go pick up your groceries at their warehouse. Look for it later this year.
In other news:
- The Oblivians are playing an in-store at Goner Records tonight at 8 p.m. I don't know much beyond that, as that's all that was posted to the Goner website this morning, but I know that the Oblivians are Memphis garage rock legends and that you should be there.
- If you like tacos and you like free things, you can get free Chipotle this weekend. Just eat there today or tomorrow and - this is key - save your receipt. Then bring it back over the weekend (Friday - Sunday) to get a free burrito, bowl or tacos. It's a little work, but if you're a burrito fiend, totally worth it.
- Tonight is National Night Out, an annual event that encourages people to get out and meet their neighbors and local police in the hopes of building safer, tighter-knit communities. The Memphis Police Department is partnering with community leaders to throw neighborhood block parties all over town tonight, so get out, turn on your porch light and make some friends.
- I don't know about you guys, but when I saw the headline "Cold-blooded Hitchhiker Makes for Tense Drive on Memphis Boulevard" in the CA today, I was expecting a crime story. But no, it's just snakes. Snakes on a car.

Forget snakes on a car; we have snakes in Midtown. Our beloved smooth Fox Terrier was bitten last night by a copperhead in Vollintine Evergreen. I rushed her to the Animal Emergency Center on Summer while my husband killed the snake with a shovel and brought it up there. This is the second copperhead we've killed, and our neighbors have had them, too. People, be careful. The dry, hot weather is perfect snake-breeding weather. Keep your yards mowed and don't allow brush to pile up. Watch your pets and small children. Our dog is going to live, but this could have ended tragically.

Mr. Brame
I am so glad I checked ilovememphis today, or else I wouldn't have gotten the scoop about the Oblivians show. What a show-thanks!
