Memphis Mystery Train Set List: Aug. 11, 2011
This morning's edition of the Memphis Mystery Train was a little sleepier than normal, but I had fun. My buddy Marvin Stockwell, who's one of the Rock for Love organizers (and a member of local punk band Pezz), came by to hang out and talk about the show. The station also had a special guest in the form of this clever little leaf-bug that was hanging out on the back door.
Here's what I played on this morning's Mystery Train, with the local tracks marked with an asterisk:
The Clash - Know Your Rights
The Egyptians - The Party Stomp
Exciters - He's Got the Power
Modest Mouse - We've Got Everything
Elvis Costello - Every Day I Write the Book
*Otis Redding - You Don't Miss Your Water
Detroit Cobras - Shout Bama Lama
MGMT - Kids (I give this a half-asterisk, as half of the band is from Memphis.)
The Ettes - My Heart
Sir Douglas Quintet - Mendocino
New York Dolls - I'm So Fabulous
The Smiths - Panic
Flobots - Handlebars
Wanda Jackson - Don'a Wanna
Mates of State - Fraud in the 80s
Gino Washington - Out of This World
*Big Star - Thank You Friends
Harvey Danger - Happiness Writes White
Clem Snide - Something Beautiful
*Bo-Keys - Jack and Ginger
Jookabox - You Cried Me
Black Keys - Summertime Blues
Bjork - Hyperballad
*Reigning Sound - I Don't Believe
Julian Casablancas - Rave On
Marty Robbins - El Paso
Old 97s - Four Leaf Clover
Camera Obscura - Let's Get Out of This Country
Thao - Good Bye Good Luck
Grizzly Bear - Two Weeks
They Might Be Giants - Meet James Ensor
*Carl Mann - Mona Lisa
*River City Tanlines - I'm Your Negative
Ramones - Judy Is a Punk
You can listen to the Memphis Mystery Train every Thursday morning from 8 a.m. – 10 a.m. on WEVL 89.9 FM in Memphis or online at wevl.org.
