365 Memphians - Aisha Rogers
I met Aisha Rogers yesterday at St. Jude. She works in their public relations department, and she invited me to the Memphis-to-Peoria run kick off yesterday morning. She's a native Memphian and Craigmont High graduate. She lives with her husband and son in Raleigh. In other news : - It's hot. Stupid hot. Stupid hotter than it was the last time we thought it was stupid hot. Memphis is under an extreme heat advisory with temperatures expected to reach 106 degrees today. Be sure to check on your neighbors (especially the elderly), don't leave anything (or anyone) in a parked car, and check this list of cooling centers just in case (heaven forbid) your AC breaks. Also, drink plenty of water, eat some frozen fruit and hope that this will be one of the years when it gets cold in September. - I tried to think a clever "Don't Stop Believing" joke, but I couldn't do it. Instead, I'll just tell you that the Memphis Flyer is giving away a bunch of tickets to the Sept. 14 Journey / Foreigner / Night Ranger concert at the FedExForum. - If you're in the mood to get physical (not now, mind you, in the next few weeks), I've got some options for you. 1) You can still sign up for the first annual Memphis Roller Derby dodge ball tournament on Aug. 13. It's $50 per team of 6-10 to play in the double elimination tournament. To sign up, email Lady Problems. 2) Sign ups have started for the annual Forrest Spence 5K at Overton Park. The  run is a fundraiser for a fund that helps LeBonheur families with their non-medical needs. - Memphis has its very own version of The Egotist now. If you're into design, advertising or commercial creative work, take a look.
