Memphis Mystery Train Set List: July 8
Memphis Mystery Train Set List: July 8
I had a few special guest rock'n'rollers on the Memphis Mystery Train this morning.
Matt Mages of the band Arvada and Marcella Pinilla from the Delta Collective stopped by this morning to talk about their bands, which were formed through the Memphis Music Foundation's 48 Hour Music Launch. The four finalist bands are showcasing at the New Daisy on Friday night (6:30 p.m., $5), with the winning band receiving $5,000 in music industry prizes (like studio time and merch).
Before and after they came, though, there was rock'n'roll. Here's what I played on the Mystery Train this morning, with the local tracks marked with an asterisk:
Belle and Sebastian - The State I Am In
The Egyptians - The Party Stomp
*Warren Smith - Red Cadillac and a Black Mustache
Badly Drawn Boy - You Were Right
Those Darlins - It's Hard
Lemon Jelly - The Staunton Lick
*Harlan T. Bobo - Mlle. Chatte
Shirelles - Please Go Away
Spoon - Me and the Bean
The Generationals - When They Fight, They Fight
Loretta Lynn - Fist City (possibly my new favorite song)
*Jack O. and the Tennessee Tearjerkers - 'Til the Money Runs Out
Magnetic Fields - The Death of Ferdinand DeSaussure
Arrah and the Ferns - Bernadette
Mountain Goats - No Children
Ramones - Glad to See You Go
Vetiver - Wonder Why
Jody Miller - Queen of the House
*Delta Collective - Valley of Kings
The Weakerthans - Our Retired Explorer (Dines With Michele Foucalt, 1965)
Mirah - The Garden
The Exciters - He's Got the Power
Black Kids - I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance With You
Yo La Tengo - Here Comes My Baby
AutoMusik - Hound Dog
REM - Drive
The Clash - Lost in the Supermarket
Red Forty - Veronica
Sparks - Angst in My Pants
Old 97s - Am I Too Late
Proclaimers - I'm Gonna Be
Detroit Cobras - My Baby Loves the Secret Agent
Del Reeves - Girl on the Billboard
Langhorne Slim - Say Yes
The Pleasure Seekers - What a Way to Die
If you missed out this morning, I'm picking up a sub shift tomorrow afternoon from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m on WEVL. Listen on the radio at 89.9 FM or online at wevl.org.
