Memphis Meat Club is a Total Sausage Fest
Last night, I ate things that I can't un-eat.
My boss, Bob, invited me to be the first-ever female guest of the Memphis Meat Club, a monthly celebration of all things meaty.
They've eaten hamburgers with personal pizzas used as buns, they've tried the Double Down, and one brave member attempted the "Fan's Perfect Game" at AutoZone Park - nine beers and nine hot dogs in nine innings.
Last night, the menu was impressive. There were bacon wrapped chicken wings, fajitas stuffed with pork and black beans, "Man Sushi" (a spring roll wrapper filled with lettuce, cheese, bacon and tater tots), jambalaya sandwiches, barbecue balls and amazingly tasty homemade bacon maple ice cream.
While I've never seen jambalaya in sandwich format, I was pretty smitten with the barbecue balls. Meat Club member Kevin had taken cubes of pepper jack cheese and wrapped them in pulled pork from Central Barbecue, wrapped them in bacon, rolled them in locally-made Brimm's barbecue chips and deep fried them. While they were delicious, I'm pretty sure they're to blame for my late-evening bout of nausea.
Here's Thomas (last night's host) and I reviewing the menu:
All of it was washed down with the Meat Club's official drink, the McNuggetini. It's a chocolate milk shake mixed with vanilla vodka, served in a martini glass with a barbecue sauce rim and garnished with a McNugget. It was sort of like a creamier version of the Midtown Overlay.
Meat Club was started two years ago by seven guys who needed something to do while banished from their houses for their wives and girfriends' monthly book club. Every month, they rotate hosting duties or take a meat-related field trip. Some of the members have special Meat Club outfits (Bob had on a pig t-shirt and his "Medium Rare" pink jacket with handmade steak patch).
If you'd like to follow the Memphis Meat Club, they have a website where they post monthly videos and brag about their more impressive gastronomical accomplishments.
