Contest: Take the Kookamonga Challenge With Me

Contest: Take the Kookamonga Challenge With Me

Next Wednesday (June 27th), I'm going to test my love of food in spectacular, carnivorous fashion. I'm taking the Kookamonga Challenge at the Kooky Canuck.

The Kookamonga Challenge is this: eat the 7.5 lbs. Kookamonga burger in less than one hour.

For reference, here's a picture of Shawn Danko, the Kooky Canuck's owner, holding the behemoth burger:

I'm not planning to do it alone, though. Shawn has been kind enough to allow me to assemble a four-person team of all-star eaters. I'll be there, as will my buddy Evan Potts (whose eating credentials include the delivery food marathon of late 2010) and Kooky's regular (and roller girl) Shannon Fisher.

I need a fourth, though, and I'd love for it to be one of you.

If you'd like to take the challenge with me, here's how to enter.

1. Make sure you're free and can be at the Kooky Canuck on Wednesday, July 27th at 6:30 p.m.

2. Leave a comment on this post telling me about your qualifications and reasons why you should be chosen to take the challenge with us.

I'll pick the winner based on their qualifications and reasoning on Wednesday, July 20th at 12 p.m., giving them a week to prepare.

Okay I would like to help you with this challenge because I am about 100 pounds overweight and am going on a Diet this week. This would be a great send off to my soon to be skinner self. I am a hot wings contest winner and LOVE burgers. I am sure we can eat this burger in record time.

Sorry, forgot to leave my qualifications. I weigh 165 but eat like i'm about 250. Did the contest way back when it was Bigfoot Lodge, out ate my brother in law that weighs 220. I never got too full to where I had to stop, the time is what got me. After the hour was up there was no reason to continue the debachery if I lost.

I am 6'3'' 260 pounds, and I love to eat. I am a competitive person and do not like to lose. Ever. I just moved to Memphis from Michigan, so I know all about Canadians and their sneaky tricks... This would be a great way for me to show off my skills, meet some new people, and help you win this challenge.

I would LOVE to join you for this! As for qualifications... I have successfully completed the En Fuego challenge at the Pizza Shack, I am the defending champion of the (annual?) Bardog meatball eating competition (21 of their delicious meatballs in 8 minutes), and I was the champion of an informal law school McD's double cheeseburger eating competition (8 + some ice cream in about 15 minutes -- stopped when I realized no one else was even remotely close). I guess the only other compelling reason is that today is my birthday?

dav-id! dav-id! dav-id! In addition to his credentials above, David's also really funny. You might get a tactical advantage to having him on your team if you can laugh a mouthful or two onto the floor or something.

It will be my end of summer blow out! I am a Social Worker at a school and I am looking for one big bang before my summer ends. I can finish a large fully loaded pizza in thirty mintues. I cant leave food on my plate and I have eaten six burgers in less than an hour before. Please pick me!

If you want to win, hands down, you should pick David. If my life depended on the successful outcome of any sort of eating challenge, without hesitation I would recruit him for my team. I have witnessed personally David's eating prowess. Last August, at Bardog's anniversary party, without breaking a sweat, he ate at least twice as many meatballs as everyone else in the meatball eating competition. In fact, after the contest when all of the other contestants were holding their stomachs and groaning in pain, David was snacking on ribs in the alley. If you don't believe me, ask Aldo. More recently, David successfully completed the En Fuego Challenge at the Pizza Shack. Stupidly, I also participated with him, and I could not eat more than three slices of that flaming hot pizza. David, however, ate the whole pizza, ghost chilis and all, as if it were second nature to him. Certainly, with his effective and proven eating techniques, he is the Memphis version of Kobayashi and can outeat Joey Chestnut any day of the week. David should be your fourth. He NEVER fails. At anything. He also really likes the burgers at Kooky Canuck and will demolish that 7.5 Kookamonga burger well within the time limit. He's also fun to be around and a great guy to know. Pick David and your life will be better for it. DAVID! DAVID! DAVID!

Funny you have this, I was trying to convinced a friend of mine last week to eat one and let me write a blog about it. I would love to give you my reason to help, but I don't think I can do it, would love to be there to see it happen.

I am 6'5", tipping the scales at almost 300 lbs. I tried to do the challenge once and got 3/4 way of done in 15 minutes and then was could not finish. There is a video on youtube it includes the logo of the restaurant before it changed it's name. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMKth_LUDIs

I nominate myself because I am a fellow food blogger who has successfully eaten this burger several times before with other carnivores. I believe Shawn's burgers are the best in the city and it's hard for me quit once I start eating one.

Hi Kerry, I'd love to help you out trying to beat the Kookamonga Challenge. I'm a fan of Adam Richman and his Man v. Food show and will often sit there and tell my wife (Carrie) "I think I could do that one" or "Nope, he's just nuts on that one". I'm not a "professional" eater or anything, but I am a fairly big guy (6 feet & 275 lbs) and I have been known to enjoy a meal. And if for some reason we don't finish everything, I got 4 rescue dogs & 2 cats at home who will be happy to take care of the leftovers.

If you want to win this one, you need David to complete your team. He's a normal-sized human that could probably consume a baby elephant if need be. I've never seen him fail in any eating competition, formal or informal. While the other competitors are stepping aside to vomit in an alley, David remains happily munching his way to victory, usually throwing in an interesting wisecrack from time to time.

Kerry, I'm the new unofficial burger blogger in Memphis always looking for Memphis' best. I call it my grail quest. Needless to say, I can put away some serious burgerage. I'd love to be on your team and review the burger as well. Either way best of luck!

I wholeheartedly believe that David should be chosen for this monumental challenge. He could probably eat a baby horse if he wanted to you. I have seen him ravage meal after meal without breaking a sweat. In fact, he could probably eat the whole burger himself - that's how much confidence I have in David. He has eaten 8 double cheeseburgers at mcDs without getting full! Come on! It's the same food as in this competition! David! David! David! He is your "chosen one."
