On This Date, Something Happened: Hooks Brothers Photography
Believe it or not, Beale St. wasn't always about the bars. Originally, it was Memphis' booming African American business district. Hooks Brothers Photography (located where King's Palace is now) was one of those businesses.
"Established by Henry A. Hooks, Sr. and his brother Robert B. Hooks, Hooks Brothers Photography Studio was the second oldest continually operating black business in Memphis. Located during its early years at 164 Beale Street, it next moved to Linden Avenue and finally to McLemore Avenue, where it ceased operation after a destructive fire in 1979."

The 'Hooks Studio' holds a place of major import within the Charles W. Capps, Jr. Archives and Museum, Delta State University.

The Hooks Brothers studio might be gone but the artistic inclination was passed down.
