Memphis Mystery Train Set List, 6/9
Memphis Mystery Train Set List, 6/9
Today was a special day at the Memphis Mystery Train - I had my first every in-studio guest.
Intern Jerel came in to help me revive one of the old Mystery Train host's favorite features: top five songs. Intern Jerel picked out his five favorite tracks and told me (and you) why they were special to him.
Here's everything that was played today, with the local tracks marked with an asterisk:
Detroit Cobras - Right Around the Corner
Egyptians - The Party Stomp
Jonathan Fire Eater - When the Curtain Calls for You
Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros - Home (RAC remix)
REM - Exhuming McCarthy
Okkervil River - Calling and Not Calling My Ex
Langhorne Slim - Say Yes
What Four - I’m Gonna Destroy That Boy
*Viva L’American Death Ray Music - Miss America (What Goes On)
Magnetic Fields - Meaningless
*Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs - Red Hot
Harvey Danger - Incommunicado
Belle and Sebastian - Photo Jenny
They Might Be Giants - Twisting
*The Ettes - We Repel Each Other (sort of - it's a Reigning Sound cover)
*Mouse Rocket - Alone Again Or
Those Darlins - Be Your Bro
Elvis Perkins - I Heard Your Voice in Dresden
Black Angels - Sunday Afternoon
Esquerita - Didn’t It Rain
Ramones - Do You Wanna Dance
Mynabirds - Let the Record Go
Grizzly Bear - Two Weeks
Yo La Tengo - Emulsified
Little Johnny and the Silvertones - Rock Til the End of Time
Sara Bareilles - Dock of the Bay (live)
Manchester Orchestra - Pride
Florence and the Machine - Between Two Lungs
Lauryn Hill - Ex Factor
T. Rex - Teenage Dream
Del Shannon - So Long Baby
*River City Tanlines - I’m Your Negative
Exploding Hearts - Modern Kicks
Jookabox - You Cried Me
Smiths - Panic
You can listen to the Mystery Train every Thursday morning from 8 a.m. - 10 a.m. on WEVL 89.9 FM or online at wevl.org. I'm also picking up bonus Friday afternoon shifts in June - you can listen from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Great show! Thanks for the Mynabirds. I needed that in my life, and didn't even know it.

Thanks for the list! I didn't realize that Sam the Sham did "Red Hot." His version is much raunchier than the Boppers' version.

Hi,
My wife is bugging me about a song you played on Thursday, something about New Orleans and flooding and water, etc. I didn't see it on the playlist but she's sure it was
last week between 8-10am she wants to find it. Clues?
Thanks
Scott

Scott -
Hmm. The only thing I could think that it might be would be "Didn't It Rain" by Esquerita.
