Emily Ward-Markle, aka Midtown Maulher, is one of my Memphis Roller Derby teammates. She's also in the process of opening Memphis' first (and only) derby girl-owned skate shop, Blues City Skates. She's going to sell skates, skate parts, wheels, apparel and do custom builds for roller skates and hockey skates. In other news: - Those crazy kids over at Memphis Inc. have a brand new Memphis-themed T-shirt for sale. This one was inspired by the 36 Chambers - "Some say the 36 Chambers are the tasks one has to complete in order to become a warrior. Others say the 36 Chambers represent the human heart. Either way – Memphis has no shortage of warriors, or heart." Get one here. - Congratulations to Joe Jackson - the Memphis Tigers guard was named to the USA Under-19 team. Congratulations also to U of M students Erin Hatley and Ashley Durham - Erin won the Miss Tennessee pageant, and Ashley was the first runner-up in the Miss USA pageant. - There are only a few booth spaces left for September's Cooper-Young festival. Booths are $160, and you can register for one by contacting the festival organizers. - Attention, Big Star fans: Ardent Records is releasing a 7" of the band's final performance at Levitt Shell last spring. The record includes the songs "In The Street," "Don't Lie To Me" and "When My Baby's Beside Me" and comes out tomorrow.
