5 Things to Do in Memphis This Weekend 6/3 - 6/5
Happy Friday, Memphis! If you're looking for something to do this weekend, you can't go wrong with these five local events:
1. Memphis Italian Festival, Marquette Park, Friday - Saturday, all day, $10
If you love Italian food (and music and culture), head to this weekend's annual Memphis Italian Festival. It includes cooking contests, lots of Italian food for sale, crafts vendors, live music, bocce ball and grape stomping. If you'd like to sample food from the cooking teams, you can buy tickets to vote in the People's Choice tasting.
2. Breakfast at Tiffany's, Orpheum Theatre, Friday, 7:15 p.m., $7
The Orpheum is kicking off this year's summer movie series with the Audrey Hepburn classic "Breakfast at Tiffany's" tonight. Don your little black dresses and pearls - the doors open at 6 p.m. for pre-movie contests, organ music and cartoons. The film will start at 7:15.
3. Shell Out for the Arts, Levitt Shell, Friday, 6:30 p.m., $20
ArtsMemphis is hosting a benefit dinner the Levitt Shell tonight. For one crisp Jackson, you'll get access to a tent with dinner and drinks. After dinner, stick around to see New Orleans party funk band Papa Grows Funk play their free show at the Shell. If you've got kids, they can get into the ArtsMemphis tent for free if they're under 12.
4. Memphis Potters Guild Show and Sale, Memphis Botanic Garden, Friday - Sunday, free
See (and purchase) works from local potters at the Memphis Potter's Guild show and sale at the Memphis Botanic Garden. There's an opening reception on Friday night from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m., if you want to meet the artists, but the show and sale will go on through the weekend.
5. Curb Couture Trashion Show, Cannon Center, Sunday, 6 p.m., $50
Come watch as local designers take the Project Runway-esque challenge of turning recyclables into wearable clothing in front of the Cannon Center on Sunday. The show, which benefits Memphis City Beautiful, will include the works of local designers, a silent auction and plenty of food and wine.
As always, if none of these events are your thing, you can find plenty more on the calendar. No matter what you do this weekend, I hope you have a great time.
