Bake Sale's 7" Veers From Their Usual Format
Bake Sale's 7" Veers From Their Usual Format
I was initially extremely excited for Bake Sale’s debut single “As Predicted”. When I first heard this all-girl garage pop band it was through a crappy live recording over the Internet, but even then I felt like they had something great.
From the lyrics to the almost overpowering and raw sound they were producing, I loved it all. But this release seemed a bit tame for this band. At their best Bake Sale loud yet passionate, this single demonstrates neither of those qualities.
“Meanwhile”, the b-side of this 7”, offers a pleasantly mellow and somewhat sad sound. It’s the perfect song for wallowing in heartache of a lost love. What really disappointed me was the title track, “As Predicted”.
The entire time I was listening to “As Predicted”, I felt like there could have been more. They’ve could’ve gotten a lot louder with that song. It sounds like that what it was made for, to be loud, to be hard. Regrettably it perfectly matches “Meanwhile” in sound, but in none of it’s garage pop charm.
Bake Sale should have taken the the opportunity to do something really fun with this single, it could’ve been spectacular. Instead it’s just a good first try.
