Random Wanda Jackson Ticket Giveaway of the Week

Random Wanda Jackson Ticket Giveaway of the Week

Rockabilly legend Wanda Jackson is coming to Minglewood Hall next week, and I've got a pair of tickets to give away. Wanda Jackson is the female contemporary of Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis (she often shared a bill with Elvis on tour). She's beautiful, funny and whip-smart, with a scratchy voice that's pure rock'n'roll. This is her, singing "Hard Headed Woman" in the 1950s: She just released a new record produced by Jack White called "The Party Ain't Over". This is the now 73-year old Jackson on stage with Jack White, still as awesome as ever: All of this is to say that Wanda Jackson is a legend, and she's going to be playing in Memphis next Thursday night. Fellow female punk / rockabilly musician Holly Golightly will open (with her band, the Broke-Offs). It should be an incredible night of old-school rock'n'roll. If you'd like to win the pair of tickets, all you have to do is comment on this post and tell me what your favorite Wanda Jackson or Holly Golightly song is by 5 p.m. today. I'll pick a winner at random. Ready, go! ****We have a Winner**** Congratulations to Patricia S.! She's going to see Wanda Jackson next Thursday.

Let's Have a Party, of course. It is the only rerecording that is better than the King's original. Plus, it was featured in one of the greatest movies of all time - Dead Poets Society

Either, Wanda Jackson: 'Heart Trouble' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfhUx4xjOSU&feature=related or, Holly Golightly: 'You Have Yet to Win' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OaG_rbOh8M&feature=related your choice... i love the original ladies just as much as to whom they continue passing the musical torch: and all on - their own - terms.

Have to go with Wanda Jackson's "Fujiyama Mama." Love how she states quite clearly how awesome she is and how she'll blow your head off. Hard to find a woman that hardcore in the 50's. And her voice is still incredible on the new album!

It's hard to pick, but I'm awfully fond of "There's a Party Going On." My little sister got me into Ms. Jackson and every time I hear that song I picture Hannah dancing in the kitchen.

"Hard-Headed Woman," because she is one of the few to burn an original Elvis recording, because she had to stick with the sex of the lyrics, and because Elvis was an old boyfriend. I have the original of "Fujiyama Mama," and Wanda didn't burn Annisteen Allen. http://youtu.be/jaUBcTQdwkk
