Participate in the Food Truck Race, AmTrak to Chicago and Save Memphis Kickball

365 Memphians - Aaron Turner
Aaron Turner is a photojournalism student at the University of Memphis (and fellow Cordova High graduate). He's leaving this weekend to take an undergraduate research internship at Virgina Tech, where he'll be studying envrionmental organizations' websites. In other news: - The Great Food Truck Race is in Memphis this weekend. I got an email this morning from one of the participants with a heads up on where some of the trucks will be. A few of the trucks will be outside of the Majestic Grille downtown on Saturday from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. They'll be in Cooper-Young on Sunday, time to be determined. - Good news for those of you looking to head to or from Chicago: AmTrak is resuming their Memphis to Chicago service on Saturday. It was temporarily suspended due to this spring's flooding. - Memphis kickball needs your help! If the mayor's proposed budget cuts pass, the league (which has 52 teams) will be without a place to play. The Wednesday night adult kickball games at Willow Park are a favorite summer activity of both the athletically and not-so-athletically inclined. If you want to help, take a few minutes to write a short letter of support for the league (and all of the other athletics that would be cut). - It's Friday, May 20th, which means that aspiring muralists have exactly one week to submit their designs for the I Love Memphis mural competition. All you have to do is submit a PDF or JPG of the design in [email protected] by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 27th. No need to include specs - we just need your design.

We play at both Willow and the fields at Tobey. All recreational athletics will be cut, which includes the summer leagues for Memphis kids!

If you're going to check out the GreatFoodTruckRace, be sure to try the Lime Truck. Amazing food, and the guys are really nice too. I've got pics of their food on my blog if you want to check it out. Thanks!

The Great Food Truck Race is filming at this very moment in Court Square. They're not selling anything today, but people are out watching them film.

Oops, that wasn't directed at you, 76trombone. I was just adding that tidbit because I just saw them filming on my lunch break.

Tomorrow's sale will be from 11am to 9pm (although I think the trucks setting up outside Majestic won't be ready to sell until 12noon). Sunday, there will be at least one truck in the Cooper Young area. I have this info from a very reliable source. This source is the Hodge Podge Food Truck. Go support them!
