Historically speaking, a lot has happened in Memphis. But, as much as the city is steeped in the past, there are a few spots around town that haven't really seen any major action. Rock'n'roll wasn't made, no civic plans were laid, and no one famous ever slept there. Yesterday afternoon, I found possibly the greatest historical marker in town while I was walking down Front St. It reads "On this site in 1897, nothing happened". Mind you, it's not an official marker celebrating the uneventful, but I love that someone has screwed it into the brick on a street where so much has happened (Front St. was the center of cotton trading in Memphis).
