365 Memphians - Jennifer Cates
131 / 365

Jennifer Cates has been the producer of News Channel 3's "Live at Nine" for almost 10 years. This is her, hanging out in the control room after this morning's broadcast.

In other news:

- Flood Update: The river crested and the water has started (slowly) receding. There's a lot of clean up ahead, especially in Tom Lee Park and neighborhoods along the Wolf River. Help your neighbors and pick some trash up, ok? To all of you who have emailed me about your concerns about visiting, take a look at this video of downtown that I made yesterday. Also, the Daily Show's Jon Stewart noticed something interesting about Memphis flood coverage - the emergence of a new system of water level measurement.

- Huge congratulations are in order for Booker T. Washington High School. After months of voting and hoping, they were hand-selected by President Obama for a special commencement address.

- Memphis historian (and generally dapper gent) Jimmy Ogle is giving a series of casual talks about the Mississippi River today through Friday at 6 p.m. on the Riverbluff walkwat (in front of the Autozone building). The talks are free, and he's more than willing to answer any questions you have about the river's history.

- Local vintage clothing company Strange Fruit Vintage announced that their Friday pop-up shop will be their last in Memphis. I'll be sad to see them go - their shops are super fun, and their sweet clothes are inexpensive.
