Generally speaking, I can't go more than a few hours without wedging Maya Angelou into whatever discussion I'm in the midst of; Mother's Day is no exception. One of Dr. Angelou's finest poems is entitled, "Mother: A Cradle to Hold Me"...
Its truly exceptional, following the perceptions of a newborn through adulthood / and the dynamic between a mother and her child. I'll only provide the first few stanzas... hopefully to whet your appetite / prompting you to acquire the poem yourself.
Also, please realize that this isn't just to "bio-moms"; no, your 'mother' is whomever raised you; and if that is indeed the case with anyone reading this, prepare for a double-whammy...
( FYI: e v e r y d a y should be Mother's Day! )
It is true
I was created in you.
It is also true
That you were created for me.
I owned your voice.
It was shaped and tuned to soothe me.
Your arms were molded
Into a cradle to hold me, to rock me.
The scent of your body was in the air
Perfumed for me to breathe.
Mother,
During those early, dearest days
I did not dream that you had
A larger life which included me,
Among your other concerns,
For I had a life
Which was only you...
