Memphis Mystery Train Playlist 4/18

Memphis Mystery Train Playlist 4/18

It's only my third week hosting the Memphis Mystery Train, and already, I'm breaking barriers. Notably, the Journey barrier. The Board at WEVL I thought it was a little weird when a listener called to tell me that I had a lot of moxie to play Journey on WEVL, but according to the station manager, I'm the first person to ever play "Don't Stop Believin'" at the station. For those of you who liked the Journey barrier intact, I had a very good reason - I wanted to dedicate a song to the Grizzlies, and it seemed the only fitting choice. Here's the full list of what I played on the Mystery Train this morning, with the local songs marked with an asterisk: Ghost World OST - Jaan Pehechaan Ho James - Laid The Egyptians - The Party Stomp The Jewels - Opportunity New Pornographers - Sing Me Spanish Techno Freddy - Sie Heiss Mary-Ann (Sixteen Tons) Ray Charles - Unchain My Heart The Hold Steady - You Can Make Him Like You She & Him - Fools Rush In They Might Be Giants - Yeh Yeh Del Shannon - Run Away Harlan T. Bobo - Mlle. Chatte* Otis Redding - You Don’t Miss Your Water* Those Darlins - Wild One Why? - Gemini (Birthday Song) France Gall - Poupee de Sire, Poupee du Son Ronnie Love - Chills and Fever Butch la Rita - Saga of the South Platte River Magnetic Fields - Absolutely Cuckoo T. Rex - Children of the Revolution Yo La Tengo - Here Comes My Baby Journey - Don’t Stop Believin’ Reiging Sound - She’s Bored With You* Rilo Kiley - The Frug The Decemberists - Song for Myla Goldberg Mulatu Astake - My Own Memories Black Keys - Have Love, Will Travel Sharon Jones - 100 Days, 100 Nights The Ramones - I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend Okkervil River - Plus Ones Donna Lynn - I’d Much Rather Be With the Girls The Ettes - We Repel Eachother Pavement - Cut Your Hair English Beat - Save it for Later Sufjan Stevens - Lord God Bird The Pleasure Seekers - What a Way to Die Listen next Thursday from 8 a.m. - 10 a.m. at 89.9 WEVL or stream the show online at wevl.org.

Kerry, you may have broken the Journey barrier, but I've totally played Petra Haden's version of 'Don't Stop Believin' several times. (And I know Judy has been there so shame on her for passing along misinformation) Nice playlist! And go Grizz!!

Hey Doug, I never said that, so don't blame me for passing along misinformation! It must've been Brian. See you Tuesday, Judy (Station Manager)
