A Thunderstorm Update, 5% Day for WEVL and a Haiku Contest
John and Cameron work at the Memphis Music Foundation, where they help connect local musicians to resources that they need (like business help, studio contacts, etc.). This weekend, they're hosting Memphis Music Launch weekend on April 8 - 10, which is a 48-hour long bootcamp for bands that teaches the ins and outs of the industry.
In other news:
- Memphis is still recovering from the round of heavy thunderstorms yesterday. Be careful, everybody - there are still downed trees and power lines, and thousands are still without electricity. If you haven't already, call MLGW at (901) 544-6500 to report any downed power lines. To report a non-emergency outage, call (901) 528-4465.
- If you needed an excuse to buy groceries, today is 5% day at the Whole Foods on Poplar. Five percent of the profits for today will be donated to WEVL, Memphis' only volunteer radio station. WEVL is one of the reasons I love Memphis, and they could definitely use your support for their unique format.
- The Center City Commission is having a haiku contest for two Kings of Leon tickets for Saturday. All you have to do to enter is write a haiku (5 syllables / 7 syllables / 5 syllables) about Downtown Memphis and post it to the CCC's Facebook page.
