5 Things to Do in Memphis This Weekend, 4/8 - 4/10

As Rebecca Black so kindly points out in her catchy-but-awful song, yesterday was Thursday, but today is Friday. Here are five reasons to get excited about this weekend in Memphis: 1. On Location Film Festival, Ridgeway Four Theatre, Friday - Sunday, priced per screening Formerly the Memphis International Film Festival, On Location: Memphis showcases feature films, documentaries, shorts and music videos from around the world. This year's festival features more than 50 works over four days at the Ridgeway Four theater. 2. Gogol Bordello with the Constellations, Minglewood Hall, Friday, 7 p.m., $27 Gogol Bordello is bringing their internationally inspired gypsy-punk rock'n'roll to Minglewood Hall tonight. I've never seen them live, but from all accounts, their live shows are an extremely good time. The Constellations are opening. The show is general admission, standing room only. 3. Rock'n'Romp, Mud Island River Park, Saturday, 2 p.m., free for kids, $5 for adults Rock'n'Romp April Rock'n'Romp's 2011 season is opening on Saturday with live music from Good Luck Darkstar, Kruxe and Brad Pounders at Mud Island River Park. There will be free food from Central Barbecue and Whole Foods, and you might want to bring swim suit (in case you want to splash in the Mississippi River replica. As always, the only way to get into the kid-friendly concert series is to bring a kid with you. 4. Overton Square Crawfish Festival, Overton Square, Saturday, 12 p.m., free Chow down on crawfish at the annual Overton Square Crawfish Festival on Saturday. There will be plenty of crawfish, beer and vendors from 12 p.m. - 6 p.m. This year's live music schedule is impressive, too: Amy LaVere, Black Rock Revival, Tullie Brae and the Medicine Man Review, and Lightning Malcolmm. All of the proceeds from the festival benefit the Alzheimer's Association. 5. Memphis Symphony Orchestra Salute to Gershwin, Cannon Center, Saturday, 8 p.m., tickets start at $15 The Memphis Symphony Orchestra is having a pops concert this weekend at the Cannon Center. They're playing selections from Gershwin. Terri Dale Hansen and Destan Owens will be guest vocalists. The program will be performed in two acts with an intermission. If none of these events are your thing, check out the calendar for more options. No matter what you do this weekend, I hope you have a blast.
