Urban Outfitters' Big Opening, Elmwood's New Bikes, and Piggly Wiggly's Makeover

365 Memphians - Marlon Van Buren
Marlon Van Buren, photographed at his desk at the Commercial Appeal, where he's an online ad designer and reigning foosball champion. In other news: - Urban Outfitters is opening tomorrow at the corner of Cooper and Central in Midtown, and they're having a big blowout to celebrate. There will be live music from local bands Oracle & the Mountain, Hosoi Bros., Youniverse, and El Dorado & the Ruckus. Also, for the first three days that they're open, the shop will donate 10 percent of their profits to the Memphis Music Foundation. - Elmwood Cemetery now has two bikes for rent, which is sure to make seeing all of Memphis' biggest, most unique cemetery a little more manageable. To reserve the bikes, email [email protected]. - Alas, poor Pig. The Midtown Piggly Wiggly is going to close on March 30th and re-open as Cash Saver Cost Plus Food Outlet. I didn't think grocery store names got sillier than Piggly Wiggly, but apparently, I'm wrong. Supposedly, the new store is going to be sort of like Costco or Sam's Club without the membership fees.

You know, I'm stoked about all of it accept the Pig's 'makeover.' I'm thinking instead of being like a Costco its going to be more like a Save-A-Lot. At least they won't be firing their workers. I certainly don't think I'll be shopping there after March 30.
