Rock Out at the First Annual Fareveller Festival

Rock Out at the First Annual Fareveller Festival

It's going to be a great weekend for live music in Memphis. The Fareveller music festival is bringing 38 local and national bands to four different venues for a weekend of aural awesomeness. Fareveller Festival Flier, Memphis, Tenn. Festival organizer Brandon Herrington is on a simple, three part mission: promote the current local scene, bring in great national talent and positively influence Memphis through music. And while the fledgling festival with the nonsensical name is in its first year, the hope is that it will grow into an important annual event. Here's a day by day break out of what you can expect to see at Fareveller. Thursday, March 24th At the Hi-Tone: Mobley, Dignan, Young Buffalo, Margot and the Nuclear So and Sos Local band Young Buffalo plays at 10 p.m. Be sure to stick around for Indianapolis-based Margot and the Nuclear So and Sos - they were one of my favorite bands in college. At the Young Ave. Deli: Cities Aviv, Total Savage Local hip hop acts Cities Aviv and Total Savage are sharing the stage at the Deli starting at 10 p.m. Cities Aviv is worth checking out solely for the chance that he'll play his smooth, dreamy single "Float On". Friday, March 25th At the Hi-Tone: Greenside Manners, While I Breathe I Hope, Pezz, the Subteens, River City Tanlines Punk and garage rock fans, this is the show for you. Atlanta's Greenside Manners are opening for legendary local punk bands Pezz and the Subteens. The River City Tanlines, Alicja Trout's brash, fun garage rock trio, close out the night. At the Young Ave. Deli: Andrew Bryant, the Wealthy West, Damien Jurado, Chase Pagan The Folk Alliance is hosting Friday night's show at the Deli. While the whole showcase is worth checking out, I'm most excited about seeing indie folk-rocker Damien Jurado: At Newbys: American Gods, Youniverse, The Oldest Profession, Nico's Gun, Morning Teleportation. Memphis indie rockers Youniverse and The Oldest Profession are joined by shoegazey noise rockers American Gods are fresh from their appearance at SXSW. Before you go, check out The Oldest Profession's video for their song "I Live in Memphis" that debuted at the Music Video Showcase earlier this month: Saturday, March 26th: At the Hi-Tone: Rainy Saturdays, Modern Convenience, Death on Two Wheels, Surf City, Pujol, Bare Wires, Turbo Fruits The Hi-Tone show is definitely going to be the loudest of Saturday night's offerings. Local garage rockers Modern Convenience are playing at 8 p.m. Bring your earplugs and get ready to dance. At the Young Ave. Deli: Myla Smith, the Sheriffs of Nottingham, Rainy Day Manual, Jamie Randolph and Darkhorse, Star and Micey I'm pretty sure Star and Micey is everywhere - they played at least five times at SXSW, and on Saturday, they're headlining a folky set at the Young Ave. Deli. Be sure to get there early and check out singer-songwriter Jamie Randolph and his band, Darkhorse. At the P&H Cafe: Animal Sounds, Holly Cole and the Memphis Dawls, Andrew Kelley Simons, Jeremy Stanfill, the Near Reaches Saturday's P&H show is going to be a little bit country and a lot rock'n'roll. Check out local songstress Holly Cole at 8 p.m., and stick around for Brad Pounders' band, the Near Reaches at 11 p.m. At Newby's: Electrocity Dance out all of that rock'n'roll at the monthly Electrocity party at Newby's. Electrocity features local and touring DJs playing house, electronic and dance music until the wee, wee hours of the morning. For more about each of the artists performing this weekend, check out their bios on the Fareveller site. Tickets to Fareveller are insanely reasonable. For $25.00, you can get a wristband that will get you into every show. Individual show tickets can be purchased at the door for $10 - $15, depending on the show.
