5 Things to Do in Memphis This Weekend: 3/18 - 3/20

It's Friday. The weather is perfect, the Tigers are playing in the tournament, and there's plenty to do in Memphis this weekend. Start with these five things: 1. University of Memphis Tigers vs. Arizona, Tulsa (or, on ESPN), Friday, 1:30 p.m., free on TV I know this one isn't technically in Memphis, but it seems to be all anyone can talk about today. For the three of you who have no idea what all the fuss is about, the Tigers (12) play Arizona (5) in the first round of the NCAA tournament today. Find a TV, park yourself at a bar, put on your blue and gray and get ready to yell. 2. Beehive Collective Storytelling Workshop, Caritas Village, Friday, 7 p.m., free The Beehive Collective is bringing their combination storytelling and workshop series to Caritas Village tonight. The focus is on the lasting effects of last year's Gulf Coast oil spill. I'm not sure quite what to expect from this, but it seems like an interesting evening for those of you looking for something different to do tonight. 3. Cabaret!, 1884 Lounge at Minglewood Hall, Friday, 9 p.m., $10 This cabaret isn't like the one being performed at Theatre Memphis right now. It's more of a cabaret in the classic sense - 10 acts featuring burlesque, acrobatics, belly dancing, illusion, comedy, music and LED light shows. The Hooper Troopers will also be performing. All of the seating is sold out, but there are plenty of general admission tickets left. 4. Jeff James and the Perfect Vessels, Automatic Slim's, Friday, 9:30 p.m., free Jeff James and the Perfect Vessels Jeff James (of local bands Snowglobe and the Haul) is bringing the Perfect Vessels to Automatic Slim's tonight for a special early show. This marks Automatic Slim's return to hosting live music. If it goes well, maybe they'll keep it up. There's no cover. 5. PlayDate Memphis, East Memphis Hilton, Saturday, 9 p.m., $10 If the club scene isn't really your thing, check out PlayDate this weekend. More of a night in than night out, PlayDate has tons of board games, a DJ, a Wii and lots of hula hoops. Think of it as a big adult game night, but with a cash bar and the occasional dance-off. It starts at 9 p.m. and lasts until 2 a.m. If none of these events are your thing, check the calendar for more. No matter what you do this weekend, have a great time and be sure to go outside.
