5 Things to Do in Memphis This Weekend: 1/28-1/30

Happy Friday, Memphis! The weather's going to be unseasonably warm, so get out and enjoy it at one of these five local events: 1. Live from Memphis 10th Anniversary Party, LFM Studio, Friday, 7 p.m., free In honor of their 10th anniversary, tiny local media company Live From Memphis is opening up their studios for what's sure to be an epic party. There's going to be free food and beer (while it lasts), a cash bar, music from DJ Witnesse and a photo booth with one of my favorite local photographers, Tommy Kha. 2. 48 Hour Launch, Launch Memphis, Friday - Sunday, 5 p.m., $50 This weekend, the entrepreneurial-minded (and people who just love a challenge) will gather at Launch Memphis to spend 48 hours launching brand new businesses. The pitches have already happened, but team leaders need all kinds of people to come help with projects. It starts at 5 p.m. tonight and runs through Sunday night, powered by lots of Mountain Dew, Redbull and sheer force of will. 3. Greenlaw Skateboarding Competition, 190 Mill Ave., Saturday, 9 a.m., free Bring your boards to the Greenlaw half-pipe this weekend for Skatelife Memphis' first skateboarding competition. If you don't know how to skate, there will be lessons at 9 a.m. The contest, which starts at noon, has two divisions for beginner and advanced skaters. 4. Strange Fruit Vintage Pop-Up Shop, Odessa, Saturday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., free Strange Fruit Vintage Pop-Up Shop Fashionistas rejoice - Shalishah Franklin is bringing her huge collection of vintage clothes to Odessa on Saturday for a one day pop-up shop. More than 100 of the items in the pop-up shop are priced less than $20. If you'd like a preview of what's going to be on sale, check out the SFV website. 5. Howl screening, Brooks Museum of Art, Sunday, 2 p.m., $8 If you missed "Howl" when it was in theaters, now's your chance to see it. The film, which stars James Franco as Allen Ginsberg, is being shown at the Brooks Museum of Art this weekend. Tickets are $6 for members and $8 for non-members. If none of these events are your thing, there are plenty more on the calendar. As always, no matter what you get into this weekend, have a great time.
