Guest Post: A Nashvillian's 10 Favorite Things About Memphis

Editors note: I Love Memphis has started to partner with awesome bloggers from around the region to share the best of what’s happening in our cities. Today, Nashvillian (Nashviller?) Dave Delaney (of the blog Dave Made That) shared his 10 favorite things about Memphis. In exchange, I sent him my 10 favorite things about Nashville. Dave Delaney's Top 10 Favorite Things in Memphis 1. Rendezvous' incredible ribs! Not only do the ribs taste amazing at this Memphis landmark, but they also have one of the best staff pages on the web. 2. The famous Peabody Hotel ducks are a must see! Every day at 11 am and 5 pm, the prestigious ducks are escorted from the roof-top Royal Duck Palace to the fountain in the lobby. You've got to see this 75 year tradition to believe it. Peabody Hotel Ducks on the roof 3. If you love good music, you would be nuts not to pay Sun Studios a visit. Rock N' Roll was born in Sun. You may have a heard of a few of the people who recorded at Sun like, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, Charlie Feathers, Ray Harris, Warren Smith, Charlie Rich, and Jerry Lee Lewis. Sound familiar? 4. Eat. Drink. Boogie. Repeat. Are the rules of the game at the Rum Boogie Cafe. Not only is this hopping bar a must for anyone strolling down Beale Street looking for a good time, but it also has a special place in my heart. My wife and I had our rehearsal dinner for our wedding upstairs in the Run Boogie. Our friends and family had a blast there, you will too. 5. Jim Jarmusch's Mystery Train is one of my favorite films. While it may not depict Memphis is the prettiest of lights, it's still a great taste of Memphis. 6. Stax Museum is another music for music lovers, while Sun Records is primarily a Rock N' Roll staple, Stax is the place for Soul and R&B. If you love Isaac Hayes, Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, the Staple Singers, Johnnie Taylor, Albert King, Booker T. & the MGs, Rufus and Carla Thomas, you must visit Stax. Stax Recording, Memphis, Tenn. 7. Graceland. Need I say more? 8. When I first visited Memphis in the early 90's, my friends and I walked down Beale Street. The live Blues music and buskers rocked Beale, and it still rocks today. A visit to Memphis without hitting Beale is like a trip to New York without Times Square. 9. Miss Polly's restaurant is so good! Be sure to order the Chicken & Waffles! 10. Finally, the view from the roof of 135 S. Main Street, where the Rialto restaurant once was, is a very special one for me. My wife and I were wed up there as the sun was setting over the Mississippi River. Thanks for letting me share some of my Memphis favorites with you! Do you have something I missed?
