5 Things to Do in Memphis This Weekend: 11/26 - 11/28

It's the day after Thanksgiving, and I know most of you are probably suffering from wicked turkey hangovers. There's only one way to get over them - get out and move around at one of these Memphis events: 1. Snowy Nights in My Big Backyard, Memphis Botanic Gardens, Friday and Saturday, 5 p.m. - 7 p.m., $7 Memphis may not get too many white Christmases, but this is the next best thing. There will be falling flakes, a “snow box”, crafts, a giant light bright and winter treats (like hot chocolate and s'mores). If you can't make it out this weekend, there will be more snowy nights on Fridays and Saturdays until Christas. 2. North Mississippi All Stars with the City Champs, Minglewood Hall, Friday, 8 p.m., $20 North Mississippi All Stars at Minglewood Hall Check out Cody and Luther Dickinson's blue rock band, the North Mississippi All Stars, at Minglewood Hall tonight. They've been playing together since 1996 and always put on a great live show. They're playing with the City Champs, a local instrumental soul trio that's one of the best party bands in town. 3. SunTrust Zoo Lights, Memphis Zoo, Friday and Saturday, 5:30 p.m. - 10 p.m., $7 Tour  the holiday light displays set up all around the Memphis Zoo. During Zoo Lights, there will also be pictures with Santa, animals (in Once Upon a Farm and the Animals of the Night exhibits), a magic show, holiday train rides and winter snacks and drinks. The zoo's ice skating rink will be open late during Zoo Lights, which runs until Dec. 30. 4. Electrocity Presents: Credick or Debit, Odessa, Saturday, 10 p.m., $5 Dance off the calories from Thanksgiving dinner at Saturday's Electrocity party at Odessa. DJ's Youre_Struley, B. Thornburg and Hype Taylor will play dance music all night long at Odessa, a tiny (but newly renovated) space on Broad Ave. Their Facebook page says that you can BYOB, and BYOT (that's bring your own turkey). 5. Tsunami Artists Market, Tsunami Restaurant, Sunday, 11:30 a.m. - 5 p.m., free Get your holiday shopping done (or started) at the Tsunami Artists Market on Sunday. They'll have handmade gifts from 15 local artists and craftspeople. Expect handmade lamps, books, knitwear, art and more. Tsunami's bar will be open, and there will be light snacks served. Whatever you do this weekend, have a great time. I'll be working my way through the mound of leftovers in my fridge and trying to pretend like I'm never going to cook that much again. As always, if none of these events are your thing, check out the calendar for more.
