Today in Memphis: Ballots, Bartenders and Basketball Stars
A real tree and a fake tree (that doubles as a bike rack) outside of the Brooks Museum of Art.
In other news:
- Today is the last day to early vote for the Nov. 2nd midterm elections. This is an important election for Memphians, as the consolidation charter is on the ballot. The Commercial Appeal has a huge voter's guide, so you can go to the polls informed. Remember, when you vote early, you can vote anywhere.
- There's some sad news about Miss Shirley on the Goner Records message board today. The legendary Lamplighter bartender hasn't been in good health for a long time, and things aren't looking good. My thoughts are with her and her family.
- Melrose High basketball star Adonis Thomas is announcing his college choice at 4 p.m. today. I don't think I'm alone in hoping that he's wearing Tiger blue next fall.
- Thanks to all of you who have sent in pictures of your Halloween costumes for the costume contest. Technically, you've got until 12 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 1 to send in your photos, but as long as I get them before I get to work on Monday morning, they'll be entered into voting. Why should you enter? Because one of the prizes is two passes to the Memphis Zoo. One of the other prizes is two very good tickets to a Grizzlies game.
