With Project Sketchbook, There Are No Rules

Blank Skechbook from the Rozelle Artists Guild On Saturday, I stopped by the Art Center in Midtown and picked up a blank sketchbook from the Rozelle Artists Guild. Three days later, I'm sad to report that it's still blank. I'm just not sure what to do with it. The sketchbook is part of Project Sketchbook, a community art project that encourages people to pick up one of the small, handmade books and fill its 12 pages. The finished sketchbooks are returned and displayed at a public show in late September. Part of the problem I'm having is that there's only one rule: the book that you pick up has to be used. Beyond that, the event organizers say that there are no restrictions. Last year, artists turned in sketchbooks filled with drawings, paintings, prints, lists, writing, photographs and collages. Some made their books into completely new books or sculptures. So far, about 100 sketchbooks have been picked up or mailed to participants. If you'd like to play along, you can pick up a sketchbook for $1 at the Art Center on Union Ave. on Saturdays or Sundays through August 22nd. If you can't get to the Art Center, you can order a book online.

Why don't you make a little collage of photos of the things you've found so far on the treasure hunt?

That's easy. You should fill it with photos from your 365 project.

Ordered mine too. I'm not yet certain what I'll do to it, but there's going to be fire involved.
