Take a Lazy Trip on the Rhinestone River
Take a Lazy Trip on the Rhinestone River
A few weeks ago, while I was browsing the singles at Shangri-La, the shop boys were playing a record that sounded like a long lost Silver Jews LP. As awesome as that would have been, it wasn't.
What it was "Rhinestone River", the third record from local band Limes.

Rhinestone River is gritty and rambling, the perfect soundtrack for late nights, drinking cheap beer in almost-closed bars or on front porches. Raspy singer Shawn Cripps is backed by a talented roster of locals (including Harlan T Bobo).
I'm completely smitten with the loopy, bluesy sound of "Sounds like a Shimmy". The title track, "Rhinestone River" sounds like trying (but not really trying) to sober up at the end of a long night.
You can pick up a copy on CD or Vinyl at Goner Records. If you'd like to try before you buy, the band is having its record release show at the HiTone on Saturday, Aug. 28th. They'll be playing with Mouserocket and Gasoline Silver. The cover is $6.
