5 Things to Do in Memphis This Weekend - 6/18 - 6/20
You need things to do this weekend. I have a few suggestions. Here are the top 5 things to do in Memphis this weekend:
1. Memphis Roller Derby - PrissKilla Prezleys vs. the Women of Mass Destruction, MidSouth Fairgrounds, Saturday, 7 p.m., $10
If you've ever wanted to say hi to me in person, I recommend coming to the Memphis Roller Derby bout tomorrow night. My team (the Women of Mass Destruction) is skating against the formidable PrissKilla Prezleys in the intraleague season opener. It's $10 at the door ($5 for kids). Enter through the construction entrances on Southern or Central and park at the Colliseum.
2. George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, W.C. Handy Park, Friday, 6 p.m. $25
Bring your funkiness to Handy Park on Beale St. tonight for the P-Funk show. It's going to be in the pavillion at the park, so if you don't feel like catching the whole show or paying $25, you can kind of lurk across the street and catch most of the action.
3. South Main Sidewalk Sale, South Main Historic District, Saturday, 8 a.m., free
Bargain hunters, rejoice! Vendors of all kinds will be set up along South Main tomorrow from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. Some of the South Main shops are participating, as are neighborhood residents. The sidewalk sale is happening at the same time as the downtown Farmer's Market, so parking may be a bit tricky - there are big lots behind the train station and at the Civil Rights Museum.
4. North Mississippi All-Stars, Minglewood Hall 1884 Lounge, Saturday, 10 p.m., $12
The brothers Dickinson are playing at Minglewood Hall's 1884 Lounge this weekend with their band, the North Mississippi All-Stars. The group has a bluesy rock'n'roll sound that's made them a local (and national) favorite. After this show, they're taking some time off from touring, so if you love the All-Stars, see them now.
5. Do something with your dad. Father's Day, Sunday.
Sunday is Father's Day, so make plans to hang out with your favorite dad. If you want to take him out, My Big Backyard at the Botanic Gardens is having a special Father's Day event, the Peabody is having a bourbon tasting at Chez Philippe, and there's a car show benefiting Habitat for Humanity (at the East Memphis Hilton, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.). Or, you could just buy him a vuvuzela and take him to watch the World Cup.

Thanks for sharing, Kerry! One little thing - the Car Show is at Hilton Worldwide, Hilton's corporate headquarter's near Dan McGuiness and Williams Sonoma (the show's entrance is on Spottswood). It's a little confusing! For more information, interested folks can visit memphishabitat.com. :)
