Free Pink Palace Memberships, a Karaoke Contests, and Photo #134

Mid-South Fairgrounds, Memphis, Tenn.
When I got to the fairgrounds last night for roller derby practice, things looked a little different. The Youth Building (aka the House of Bruise, MRD's last home) had been reduced to a pile of cinder blocks and rubble. As far as I know, it's the last building at the Fairgrounds that's coming down. In other news: - The Pink Palace is having a free summer trial membership program. All you have to do is sign up online during May. The trial membership is good for three months and it gives you access to the Pink Palace Museum and the Lichterman Nature Center. If you've got kids out of school for the summer, you should definitely sign up. - One of my favorite local artists, Daniel Tacker, has entered a competition to have his painting featured at the Brooks Museum of Art. The winners are being chosen by popular vote, so if you like his painting "Memphis Soul", click the button at the top left of the photo that says "Add to Faves". - I've been asked to channel my inner Simon Cowell and judge tomorrow's Corporate Karaoke Smackdown in Court Square. Anyone can enter to sing karaoke (soberly, mind you) for the lunchtime crowd. If you want to sing (or cheer on those who are), come to Court Square at 11:45 tomorrow morning.
