Incredible Thai Food in Collierville's Town Square
When I checked in at Jaja's River Kwai on Foursquare, a tip from my friend Ryan R. popped up: "Be sure to order the spring roll. I GUARANTEE you've never had its equal."
That's high praise for Jaja's, a tiny Thai restaurant tucked into the corner of a shopping center near the Collierville town square. When I say "tucked into a corner", I mean it - it took three trips around the block to find the restaurant.
I ordered a Thai egg roll and some masaman curry. The egg roll was oddly long and skinny, but it was stuffed with noodles and veggies. It came with sweet chili sauce and peanut sauce.
The masaman curry was a little different than any I'd ever tried before. It smelled amazing - all spices, sweetness and cilantro. The sauce was a thinner than the usual coconut milk-based curry. The thin-sliced beef was tender, and the bite-sized potatoes were soft. Everything was fresh and homemade.
When I walked into Jaja's, I was confronted with a veritable wall of fake flowers, plants and Buddhas. The restaurant was dark and a TV in the corner played "Days of Our Lives". The atmosphere is casual and family friendly, and the service is fast and efficient.
