Twenty Thousand Reasons To Go Outside at the Dixon
Twenty Thousand Reasons To Go Outside at the Dixon
From now until mid-April, the gardens at the Dixon are exploding with color. The 20 thousand tulips that the horticulturists planted earlier this year are blooming.
All 15 types of tulips are represented - there are 35 hybrids and 16 species that grow in the wild. The Dixon is trying to see if the 16 wild species will be able to survive in this part of the country.
Most of the tulips are concentrated at the gardens towards the front of the Dixon's grounds. There are all different colors, sizes and shapes. The bulbs were planted so that they wouldn't all open at once, meaning that there will still be tulips blooming for a few weeks.
The tulips provide great photo opportunities - I snapped several shots on my digital camera and on my 35mm Diana.
The Dixon is open daily Monday - Saturday.
