Things to Do in Memphis This Weekend: 3/5 - 3/7

Happy weekend, everybody. It's Friday morning, it's supposed to be 60 degrees all weekend and there's plenty to do in Memphis. Here's my weekly top five: 1. 48 Hour Launch, Launch Memphis, Friday - Sunday, $45 If you've got a great business idea, there's no reason to wait to get it off the ground. This weekend, entrepreneurial Memphians of all kinds will bring their ideas, skills, and stamina to 48 Hour Launch, an event that launches start-up companies in a single weekend. 2. Watch some basketball, FedEx Forum, Saturday, 12 p.m. and 2 p.m., prices vary Tomorrow, the University of Memphis Tigers will play Tulsa in the last game of their regular season at 12 p.m. It's also senior day, and the team's graduating athletes will be honored. At 7 p.m., the Memphis Grizzlies will play the Spurs. The game marks mascot Grizz's birthday, and there's going to be a special halftime show involving musical chairs, rollerskates and mascots. 3. Hold Fast, Theatre South, Friday - Sunday, $20 Phil Darius Wallace's solo show, "Hold Fast" opens at TheatreSouth tonight. The show is an autobiographical piece about a working actor, but it tackles the work of Langston Hughes (and his characters). The show is directed by Jerre Dye, and the Voices crew is super excited about it. It runs through March 14. 4. WEVL Benefit Show, HiTone Cafe, Saturday, 10 p.m., $10 Memphis' only all-volunteer radio station, WEVL, is having their annual fundraiser at the HiTone tomorrow night. Jack O. and the Tearjerkers will play, as will Mouserocket and the New Mary Jane. All of the proceeds to go keeping WEVL on air and awesome. 5. Go outside, anywhere, all weekend, free. Saturday's high is 60 degrees. Sunday's high is 64. Take your dog to Overton Park, walk the Wolf River Trail, go to Shelby Farms, walk the Main Street Mall downtown, or sit on your front porch. I'm thinking that this is going to be the first truly nice weekend of the year. Get out and enjoy it.

And don't forget this is the last weekend for Ballet Memphis's performance of AbunDANCE. Saw it last Sunday, and it really is a great show. Don't have to be a ballet buff to enjoy Joyful Noise. It's playing Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday afternoon in the New Playhouse on the Square.
