This Weekend in Memphis: 12/18 - 12/20
Happy weekend, Memphis. I know many of you will spend the weekend scrambling to get last minute shopping done, but you should make time to take a break and head to one of these events.
1. Harlan T. Bobo Christmas Show (in 3D), Hi Tone Cafe, $7, Friday and Saturday, 9 p.m.
Harlan T. Bobo's annual Christmas show is so awesome that it's going to happen twice this year. In years past, Memphis's most mysterious musician has worn angel wings, light-up suits and stilts while playing holiday classics and songs from his records.
2. Lil' Film Fest 12, Brooks Museum of Art, free, Saturday, 2 p.m.
Saturday's Lil Film Fest is going to be the biggest one ever - 19 films under 5 minutes long will be shown on Saturday afternoon at the Brooks. Be sure to get there early - I've heard from both the Brooks and Live From Memphis that the event is routinely packed.
3. South Main Trolley Tour, South Main Arts District, free, Friday, 6 p.m.
Head down to South Main tonight to check out the galleries, drink some wine and ride the trolley for free. You can score some last minute Christmas gifts at Muse, Runway, Sneak Peek, the Folk Alliance, and all of the galleries on the street.
4. Jamie Randolph and the Darkhorse, Swanky's Taco Shop, free, Friday, 8 p.m.
I love that Swanky's Taco Shop in Germantown is starting to have live music on Friday nights. The bands represent some of Memphis' best, and it's great that Swanky's is bringing them out to Germantown. Tonight, check out singer-songwriter Jamie Randolph and the Darkhorse.
5. Holiday Concert, Germantown Performing Arts Center, $12, Saturday, 7 p.m.
GPAC is having their annual holiday concert on Saturday night. The Germantown Symphony Orchestra and Germantown Chorus will perform holiday classics. And, if you just can't contain your holiday cheer, there's going to be an audience sing along.
No matter what you do, have a great weekend!
