Craig Brewer Loves Memphis
Craig Brewer Loves Memphis
Of course filmmaker Craig Brewer loves Memphis. The city has been an undeniable inspiration to his work (most of his movies have been shot in Memphis and feature some local music and actors). His most recent Memphis-themed project, 5 Dollar Cover, was about the lives of a handful of Memphis musicians.
Craig Brewer gets Memphis. He understand the city's soul, and he sees the beauty that comes from Memphis's grit.
Maybe it's just me, but I think he also hides little inside jokes for Memphians inside his screenplays. When I watched Hustle & Flow while living in Indiana, there were parts where I was the only one laughing.
And he's super nice - Craig was kind enough to invite me to his (incredibly cool) office yesterday to take his picture with the sign.
So thank you, Craig, for letting me take your picture, and for taking the time to show everyone what an amazing place Memphis is through your work.

Wow! Your little sign just increased in its coolness value! Lucky you. Did the homeless pups get their pics made with it yet?

One of my fave inside jokes in Hustle & Flow was when he was talking to Skinny Black about his car being stolen. "And I axed myself, where would I take a car? Milllbraanch."
*nods* "Millllbraaaanch."
